Weer zo’n man waarover niemand me iets verteld heeft: Julius von Bismarck: alleskunner, kunstenaar, mediaster. Hij is zelf nogal een opvallende verschijning, maar zijn werk is ook nog eens mindblowing! Laat ik er verder niets over zeggen, want er zijn fijne minidocumentaires waarin hij het zelf allemaal veel beter weet te zeggen! 1 van de meest provocatieve, absurde en gelijk ook krachtige filmpjes komt uit de serie Punishment:
Wetenschapper Neil deGrass Tyson werd door TIMEmagazine gevraagd naar het meest verbazende feit uit het heelal. Dit is wat hij zei:
The most astounding fact is the knowledge that the atoms that comprise life on Earth the atoms that make up the human body are traceable to the crucibles that cooked light elements into heavy elements in their core under extreme temperatures and pressures. These stars, the high mass ones among them went unstable in their later years they collapsed and then exploded scattering their enriched guts across the galaxy guts made of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and all the fundamental ingredients of life itself.
These ingredients become part of gas cloud that condense, collapse, form the next generation of solar systems stars with orbiting planets, and those planets now have the ingredients for life itself.
So that when I look up at the night sky and I know that yes, we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the Universe is in us.
When I reflect on that fact, I look up – many people feel small because they’re small and the Universe is big – but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars. There’s a level of connectivity. That’s really what you want in life, you want to feel connected, you want to feel relevant you want to feel like a participant in the goings on of activities and events around you That’s precisely what we are, just by being alive…
Joost Lieuwma maakte een heerlijke animatiefilm over een jongen die van zijn vader op eigen benen moet leren staan en de wijde wereld in wordt gestuurd. Hij is hier nog niet zo goed in omdat hij zo fijn gepamperd wordt door mams en keert telkens weer met de meest geweldige smoezen terug. Uiteindelijk lukt het hem natuurlijk wel. Eronder een mogelijk vervolg met happy end in een andere animatiefilm van Franse makelij:
Het Braziliaanse kunstenaarsduo Cantoni Crescenti maakt hallucinerende ruimtes met spiegels en technologie; van oneindige ruimtes in kubussen tot lange gangen met spookverschijningen van jezelf wanneer je er doorheen loopt; spectaculair! Vice maakte een korte documentaire over ze:
Op de valreep toch nog naar Beelden aan Zee gegaan voor de tentoonstelling over de Russen in de 21e eeuw. Ik hoorde niet zulke enthousiaste reacties, maar ik vond het geweldig! Andrej Kuzkin maakt metershoge, kaalhoofdige beelden van brood, de graffitylike sculpturen van de foto hieronder…erg grappig en natuurlijk het geheimzinnig religieuze werk Abacus van Sergei Shutov…allemaal even eigenzinnig als krachtig!
